Teacher: Carol DeVillez

Carol DeVillez is a beacon of wisdom and guidance in the First Presbyterian Church’s Sunday School and children’s ministry. Her journey as an educator span over two and a half decades, where she imparted knowledge and values to young minds at Perry Heights Middle School in Evansville, Indiana. Carol’s academic credentials, with degrees in social science and education from Oakland City University and the University of Southern Indiana, laid a strong foundation for her teaching vocation.

Beyond the classroom, Carol’s passion for nurturing growth extended to after-school programs and extracurricular activities, where she fostered a sense of community and belonging among her students. Her commitment to education was further exemplified through her role as an adjunct professor in the School of Education at USI, where she shaped future educators.

In her golden years of marriage with Harold, Carol has cultivated a family rooted in love and intellectual curiosity. Their children, Amber and Brian, along with their respective spouses, Kyle Howard and Meredith, have been a source of immense pride and joy. As a grandmother to Maddison, Megan, Dane, Nathan, and Paige, Carol has instilled in them the love for learning and the importance of faith.

Carol’s transition from a public school educator to a Sunday School teacher has been marked by her unwavering commitment to children’s spiritual development. Her ability to connect biblical teachings with life lessons makes her classes a nurturing ground for young believers. Carol’s love for God and people shines through her interactions, making her a cherished figure in the church community.

At First Presbyterian Church, Carol and Harold have found a spiritual home where they contribute to the fellowship and outreach in Mt. Vernon. Carol’s role in the children’s ministry is not just about teaching; it’s about shaping lives, inspiring faith, and guiding the next generation towards a path of righteousness and compassion.
